The Bell Super Air R MIPS delivers exceptional versatility and protection for aggressive trail and enduro riders. After 950 miles across bike park descents, technical trail riding, and XC loops, this helmet impressed with its extended coverage and innovative MIPS Spherical technology. At 310 grams without the chin bar, it achieves respectable weight while providing significantly more protection than traditional XC helmets—extended rear coverage and deeper temple protection proved valuable on technical descents. The MIPS Spherical system uses a ball-and-socket design with dual-density EPS liners that rotate independently during angular impacts, eliminating the friction pad found in traditional MIPS systems. Virginia Tech awarded this helmet a 5-star safety rating. The removable chin bar compatibility (sold separately, adds 180g) transforms this into a certified full-face helmet for park days—a genuine innovation that eliminates the need for a second helmet. Ventilation proved adequate on climbs, though not quite matching lighter XC-specific helmets. The Float Fit retention system with XT2 antimicrobial padding remained comfortable across extended rides. The Super Air R is the ideal helmet for trail riders who occasionally visit bike parks or tackle aggressive enduro terrain.
